Podcasts & Substacks

Founded in May of 2019, The Emerald podcast explores the human experience through a vibrant lens of myth, story, music, and imagination. Brought to life through the wise, wild, and humorous vision of Joshua Michael Schrei, The Emerald draws from a deep well of poetry, lore, and mythos to challenge conventional narratives on politics and public discourse, meditation and mindfulness, art, science, literature, and more. At the heart of the podcast is the premise that the imaginative, poetic, animate heart of human experience — elucidated by so many cultures over so many thousands of years — is missing in modern discourse and is urgently needed at a time when humanity is facing unprecedented problems. The Emerald advocates for an imaginative vision of human life and human discourse as it questions deep underlying assumptions about societal progress. As likely to source from the Wu Tang Clan as the ancient Indian Vedas, and featuring guests such as anthropologist and award-winning author Wade Davis, philosopher Bayo Akomolafe, award-winning author Ann Wroe, noted indigenous author Tyson Yunkaporta and more, The Emerald offers a green glint of wonder in a world that needs to be reacquainted with its own beating heart.

Sovereign Ground Press: Reclaiming Self After HighControl Religion Sovereign Ground is a multipart project—articles, books, workbooks, and community—for people untangling themselves from highcontrol Christianity and similar faith systems. It’s written for those of us who’ve left churches that demanded total loyalty, obedience, and service. Many of us have felt unmoored, blank, or unsure of who to be beyond our assigned church roles. Instead of arguing doctrine, Sovereign Ground focuses on repair: rebuilding trust in our own perceptions, desires, bodies, and boundaries after years of fearbased theology and spiritual gaslighting. Drawing on traumainformed approaches and partswork (IFSstyle “inner family” language), Sovereign Ground offers gentle story, clear naming of harm, and small, concrete practices that help us remember who we were before we were reduced to “good Christian,” “modest daughter,” or “servant of the lord.” The project is intentionally interfaithfriendly. Some readers still identify as Christian, some lean toward earthbased practices, and some want nothing to do with religion at all. The goal isn’t to move anyone toward a particular belief, but to create space for people emerging from controlling religions to reclaim our own inner authority, reconnect with our bodies, and choose our own path from a place of sovereignty rather than fear.

Plant Intelligence and the Imaginal Realm: Beyond the Doors of Perception into the Dreaming of Earth — Stephen Harrod Buhner

The Disobedience of the Daughter of the Sun: Ecstasy and Time — Martín Prechtel

The Wild Edge of Sorrow: Rituals of Renewal and the Sacred Work of Grief — Francis Weller
